Licensed Professional Counselor / Art Therapist
Creative expression can help you heal, feel, and grow. Whether you’re the next Frida Kahlo or Kehinde Wiley or you haven’t picked up a paintbrush since elementary school, I can help you create the life you want through the use of art therapy. I believe that you are the expert in your own life and art therapy allows for the discovery of answers to your own questions.
My personal life experience has led me to specialize in supporting people (ages 6+) living with chronic illness & those who have experienced medical trauma; specifically people touched by Type 1 Diabetes. I love working with neurodiverse individuals and special needs families. I hold a special place in my heart for families living with Autism, as my family is as well! Additionally, I see individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, or even people just feeling “a bit off center”! I work from a postmodern and social-justice perspective and my approach is gentle and strengths-based. I hope to help you feel more grounded in your life by blending creative expression with compassion and encouragement.
In addition to my own visual art practice, I continually work on projects involving social justice and human rights issues including access to insulin & insulin affordability, supporting the LGBTQ+ community and standing with the Black Lives Matter movement. I am currently providing teletherapy from my art studio located in NE Minneapolis.
Amzie studied painting and drawing at The College of Visual Arts in Saint Paul and received her Masters Degree from Adler Graduate School in Marriage & Family Therapy and Art Therapy.
